Printed labels & badges expanded --- Started using Letraset products. Design had an optical enlarger for drafting, used it as a flatbed camera with Copyproof material ------ Artwork done larger, reduced to produce zinc blocks, screens etc., Next new art dept., with dark room, flatbed camera,
IBM golfball, photo type setting for body copy. . Producing leaflets, show cards etc,.
Had 4 different Design Rooms from 1979 to 84. Last two included Exhibition Design & construction.

My first trial in design was in painting logos and text at actual size for Labels.
Zinc Letterpress Printing Blocks:- Produced from totally hand-painted artwork.
Screen printing:- For ribbons and labels on black material. Rotary rubber stereos:- Labels etc,. Litho:- On Fasco sheet material, 1974 for Labels, Badges & pictures. |
Late 70s - Cash's Own weaving CAD system.
For scanning, drafting, card cutting & Card reader, to turn old cards into digital files.

1984 - The move to Torrington Ave,. New CAD for drafting & card cutting etc, scanning in artwork.
1991 - Artwork design system arrived , in the shape of two Mac IIFX PCs, scanner and colour printer for £22,000. Used for Labels, Badges and any printed material. I suffered from Carpal Tunnel due to the mouse, first used a Tracker ball, so so, later came a wacom A3 tablet, fantastic. I experimented a few times doing bookmark designs on the MAC/PC. |

Designed to show how they were to be woven / drafted.
For Bookmark Designs it was more cost effective to use a paint brush than a computer.
The problems with bespoke bookmarks is that they tend to be a one off sale, so expensive.
HENCE the recycling of gift-ware bookmarks by adding a club / company name. I was still involved with quiet a few Designs after 2002.

With the arrival of the Mac in 1991
All company Logos / graphics would be drawn in Adobe illustrator to be re-used at any size over and over again, this made these files very important - kept under lock & key. Advertising / Design studios & Printers had to protect there Digital files, as they are worth a fortune to a competitor. A sketch pad for ideas a must. The paint brush was never thrown out. |
